Safety - Our First Priority

Safety is the most important aspect of our program. We go to great lengths to ensure the safety of all of the children in our care. Your child will be under the care of many individuals to help keep him/her physically safe. Outside of the field mentors and therapists, other personnel are in place to assure all other safety aspects are accounted for. We have a Field Director on-call 24 hours a day and other support staff will also be on-call 24 hours in case any emergency or some other need arises.

All field mentors are trained in First Aid and CPR while at least one field mentor in every group will have a more advanced certification called Wilderness First Responder. Every field mentor will be screened by the Utah Department of Human Services to further ensure student safety with a five year back ground check.

Each group has an Iridium satellite phone and a separate cell phone for updates, check-ins, and emergency use such as quick and timely communication for Life Flight or an ambulance. Outside thermometers and GPS units are also used to warrant student safety.

Your child will be seen by a licensed physician for a complete physical before entrance to the program.  The students will be seen every 14 days in the field to follow-up on your child’s health and doctor visits are arranged if needed more often.

Elements Wilderness Program provides healthy food options that vary each day. Food is never withheld or used as a consequence and our diet consists of approximately 3,000 calories daily depending on what the students choose to eat. We provide fresh water daily to each group to ensure safe clean water and an adequate supply. Students will be outfitted head to toe with the best wilderness gear to protect them from the elements.
